English as a Second Language Classes
English as a Second Language (ESL) is an ongoing class which meets throughout the year, held on Monday and Friday mornings from 10am-12pm. This class is at the United Samaritans Community Center in Hughson at 2413 3rd Street.
These classes are based on a Family Literacy model. This involves conversation and materials are geared towards assisting parents with feeling more empowered when they help their children read. Every student signs a pledge that they will read and assist their children with their homework in English. They receive a dictionary and a children's book is read and discussed each month. The children are provided literacy focused activities as they participate in childcare, while parents attend class. There is a snack provided as well.
Funding is provided by our partners –
