2008 Health Forum
Hughson Family Resource Center’s Hispanic women’s support group, Amigas Unidas, submitted a proposal for a mini United Way Grant to improve their local community.
They were awarded $500.00 for the provisions needed for a health forum. The topic chosen by the group was childhood obesity.
The group members planned, advertised, set up, prepared the snacks, and assisted with the registration for the forum held on May 16th 2008.
The forum kicked off with a presentation by Ana Astorga from Health Services Agency. She talked about nutrition, childhood obesity, and diabetes.
The last hour was spent with Beatriz Lopez and Alma Alcazar who presented car seat safety class and distributed 35 free car seats.
In total, there were 25 adults and 59 children present. The children were divided into 2 age groups, 2 years old to 5 years old and 6 years old and older. Each group were given age appropriate planned activities.
